For a long time we have put a little puppy in Brenley's bed for her to sleep with. It's a little Bichon beanie baby, just like Carley, our dog. She didn't really care for the dog much until about a month ago. Now she will wrap one arm around it and put the put her thumb in her mouth with the other hand. It's so cute.
We knew she loved her puppy because every time she wakes up from a nap she is standing at the rails holding her puppy or sitting and playing with it. But we had no idea that she had become dependant upon the puppy.
Sunday afternoon we were driving home from Austin. We had spent a great weekend with our friends, the Ralstons. Brenley got really fussy in the car. We had already spent at least 30-45 minutes in stop and go traffic (we let her out of the car seat then), so the trip was a lot longer than it was supposed to be. She cried for a good 20 minutes. Normally she will cry and eventually put her thumb in her mouth then go to sleep, but not this time.
Finally it dawned on me that maybe the puppy would help. It was amazing!!! Automatically she quit crying, wrapped her arm around the puppy, and put her thumb in her mouth. It was really cute. Thank goodness for the puppy. And thank goodness we have two puppies that sleep in bed with her, if we ever lose one, we will always have a back up!
